INBOUND STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM AT BERKELEY COLLEGE EXPERIENCES GROWTH

Diverse Business Curriculum in Heart of Manhattan Attracts Students from Europe

Berkeley College

This academic year marks the 10th anniversary of the Inbound Study Abroad program at Berkeley College. Through the program students who attend colleges and universities in Europe take part in a study abroad experience at Berkeley College in Midtown Manhattan that offers a diverse business curriculum to learn in the classroom as well as from New York City, the business, finance and fashion capitol of the world. The largest group during a single term, 271 students, an increase of 56 percent from last year, is participating this fall.

Students represent institutions in Denmark, France, Germany, Portugal and Spain this semester. In September three orientation sessions were held to accommodate all of the students were presented by Manuel Correa, PhD, Academic Head, Noncredit International Programs and Instructor, Management, Berkeley College Larry L. Luing School of Business®; Jacob Dyer, Director, International Student Advisement; and Stephanie Zubrowski, International Student Advisor. The program works collaboratively with the leadership of the Berkeley College International program, including Nori Jaffer, EdD, Vice President, and Cynthia Marchese, Senior Vice President.

The Inbound Study Abroad program utilizes classrooms in the building on East 41st Street where the International offices are located. These students engage in either four or five Berkeley College courses in Accounting, Business, Fashion, Human Resources, Management and Marketing. Some students remain an additional semester to complete an internship.  Fifty-three different academic class sections are in session this semester.  In addition to the academic side, students are invited to experience New York City by participating in field trips to cultural events such as a visit to the New York City Ballet or the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
