Berkeley College reaches a milestone this month, as its inaugural class of MBA in Management students complete their studies. The 35 graduate students, who range from longtime business owners to budding entrepreneurs, marked their accomplishments on August 3, 2017, with a dinner celebration at the Brownstone in Paterson, NJ.

“This is a very special group of students who have worked hard in pursuit of a scholastic milestone that few people ever reach,” said Chris W. Grevesen, PhD, Dean, Berkeley College School of Graduate Studies. “Not only have these students handled the demands of a rigorous academic program, but they have also shown that they can balance those demands with family responsibilities and full-time employment. We admire their tenacity and focus.”

In her keynote address, Christina Schelling, Vice President, Human Resources – Performance, Inclusion and Culture at Prudential Financial, told the graduates they should embrace their differences.

“All of you offer something to the corporate world that is absolutely needed,” she said. “Nobody else can be you. Don’t be afraid to advertise your uniqueness, your authenticity, in all you do. Own your story.”

Berkeley College Viomanda Fernandez, a member of the graduating class, is employed with The Crane Fund, a charitable trust for employees of The Crane Co. in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. She hopes to become an entrepreneur, and is perfecting her business plan using skills learned in the program. At the dinner, she spoke about the closeness of the graduating class.

“We stayed the course and came out strong each and every semester, together,” she said. “All of the graduates here tonight come from such different perspectives and walks of life that I can’t help but be excited at the thought of where we’ll be in the next 10, 20 or even 30 years. I know we will go out and change the world through business.”

The graduating class also presented a special gift to Maya Reddi, PhD, the professor that led 19 students on a Global Immersion Experience to India in April 2017. The students visited international corporations like Microsoft and PepsiCo, as well as smaller manufacturers and service-oriented firms.
