EVENTS AT BERKELEY COLLEGE CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF
Berkeley College students, faculty and staff are commemorating the impact of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. through community service and special events already under way this month.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service – #HashtagLunchbag
When: Thursday, January 18, 2018, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Student Activities Center, Berkeley College in Brooklyn
Students and staff will prepare lunch bags and decorate them with positive messages for members of the local community in need.
Martin Luther King Jr. Listening Party
When: Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 12 noon to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m.
Where: The Atrium, Renaissance Hall, Berkeley College in Woodland Park
The Berkeley College community will listen to and discuss Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
Tree of Dreams
When: Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 12 noon to 2 p.m.
Where: Student Activities Center, Berkeley College in Midtown Manhattan
Students will listen to Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech and will discuss its meaning in the world today. Students will write down their own dreams and add them to a canvas Tree of Dreams, which the College will display.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service – Valentine’s Day Cards for Seniors
When: Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 10:45 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Where: First Floor Lobby, Berkeley College in Dover
The Berkeley College community will create Valentine’s Day cards and write messages to seniors at the Regency Grande Poste-Acute, Rehab and Nursing Center in Dover, NJ.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service – Project Linus
When: Wednesday, January 17, 2018, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: Student Lounge, Berkeley College in Newark
Students and staff will create no-sew fleece security blankets for Project Linus, a nonprofit organization that distributes the blankets to children in New Jersey hospitals.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service – Buddies of New Jersey, Inc. HIV/AIDS Support Network
When: Thursday, January 11, 2018, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Where: Hallway, Berkeley College in Paramus
Students will learn how to become advocates in their communities from Buddies of New Jersey, Inc., an organization that provides education, resources and care to those affected by HIV or AIDS.
From Martin Luther King Jr. to the Present: Understanding the Struggle for Human Rights
When: Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Where: Student Center, Berkeley College in Woodbridge
The Berkeley College community will discuss the 1960s struggle for human rights, and the challenges that the United States still faces today.

Berkeley College will post entertaining and educational resources for students and staff that celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. These include episodes of the ABC comedy “Black-ish” with commentary that focuses on the “I Have a Dream” speech and the history of civil rights. The College will also share suggested volunteer activities for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
