BROOKLYN BOROUGH PRESIDENT TO ADDRESS BERKELEY COLLEGE GRADUATES
AT 2012 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College, is pleased to announce that Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will address approximately 1,700 graduates who will receive Baccalaureate or Associate degrees from Berkeley College this year.  Mr. Markowitz also will receive an honorary degree at the Berkeley College 2012 Commencement Ceremony on Friday, April 27, 2012, at the IZOD Center, in East Rutherford, NJ.

Mr. Markowitz’ career spans more than three decades of public service. From the age of 26 when he organized the Flatbush Tenants Council, to his serving in the New York State Senate, representing Central Brooklyn for 23 years, to the founding of the Senior Citizens League of Flatbush, his agenda continually focuses on core issues. As a result of his efforts and commitment, troubled medical institutions were saved.  Currently, he is calling for increased parental and community engagement in schools and policies that support improved graduation rates.

Mr. Markowitz is a lifelong resident of Brooklyn. He graduated from Wingate High School and received his Baccalaureate degree in Political Science from Brooklyn College.

A leader in business education for more than 80 years, Berkeley College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and enrolls more than 8,700 students —including more than 800 international students — in its Baccalaureate and Associate degree programs. The College has four New Jersey locations — Woodland Park, Paramus, Woodbridge, and Newark.  And in New York there are four locations — Midtown Manhattan, Lower Manhattan in the Wall Street area, Brooklyn, and White Plains.  Berkeley College Online also offers full degree programs. Programs are offered in more than 20 career fields. The website address is www.BerkeleyCollege.edu
