We’ve actually gotten to know the volunteers that come here
every year on a first-name basis, and they seem to genuinely love coming here.”

On Friday, June 5, 2015, 350 Berkeley College associates, alumni and Honors students spent the day in service to their communities at various nonprofit, service-based organizations in New Jersey and New York.

During the 6th Annual Community Service Day, New Jersey volunteers had 21 opportunities to serve in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris and Passaic counties. In New York, volunteers served in all five boroughs, as well as in Rockland and Westchester counties.

“Berkeley College is proud to contribute in meaningful ways to the communities where we live and work,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College. “We expect our students to bring this social consciousness and spirit of service with them when they leave Berkeley and go on to make a difference.”

New Jersey volunteers shelved books and painted rooms at organizations such as Children’s Aid and Family Services in Paramus, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Clifton and Wayne, and Sarah Ward Nursery in Newark. New York volunteers served in soup kitchens and planted flowers for organizations such as St. John’s Bread and Life in Brooklyn, the American Cancer Society in Queens, and the White Plains YMCA in Westchester County.

“We’ve actually gotten to know the volunteers that come here every year on a first-name basis, and they seem to genuinely love coming here,” said Dave Font, Unit Director, Boys and Girls Club of Wayne.

Community Service Day is an initiative of Berkeley Cares, which throughout the year assists charities in the critical areas of food, shelter, health and student success.
