More than 50 Berkeley College students combined their talents to present A Knight of Style Fashion Show, an event held at the Woodland Park, NJ, campus on December 1, 2017, in recognition of the global health initiative, World AIDS Day. Comprised of students modeling styles arranged by their peers, the fashion show collected more than 80 toys that the AIDS Resource Foundation for Children (ARFC) will deliver to youth in need during the holiday season.

The nonprofit organization provides help to children and families impacted by HIV/AIDS, or who have other serious medical conditions, to be resilient and build healthier futures. “This donation of toys will help us bring joy to hundreds of families this holiday season,” said Kevin Zealand, Executive Director, ARFC. “Berkeley College students’ support of vulnerable children and families demonstrates compassion and a commitment to their community that will serve them well in future endeavors.”

Student models appeared on the runway while donning the latest trends in fashion during an event organized by student members of the Berkeley College Fashion Club. The evening also featured musical performances and poetry readings from students, as well as dance routines from the Royal Heat Dance Squad.

“Collaborating with fellow students on this event reinforced the importance of teamwork and leadership for me,” said Palenia Pichardo of Paterson, President of the Berkeley College Fashion Club in Woodland Park. “It also gave us the chance to create an event on World AIDS Day that will hopefully encourage those in attendance to support others, no matter what their health condition is.”

“During dress rehearsals, you could sense the encouragement and excitement everyone felt about coming together as an extended Berkeley College Fashion Club family in support of a greater cause,” said Daniel Sarafian of South Amboy, President of the Berkeley College Fashion Club in Woodbridge.

“As students, it is important to give back to the community because it teaches us to find compassion within ourselves,” Morgan Wilson of Hackensack, President of the Berkeley College Fashion Club in Paramus. “The reward in giving back is realizing you’ve made a positive change in someone’s life, and ultimately in your community.”
