Berkeley College is exhibiting the work of artist Robert John Keiber at the New York City Midtown Campus Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 3 East 43rd Street. This exhibit will be on display from June 1 through 30--Monday through Friday--from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. An artist’s reception will be held on Thursday, June 9, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
Mr. Keiber is Professor of Communications at Berkeley College and Curator of the Midtown Campus Gallery.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, Mr. Keiber spent his early years in North Carolina where he obtained a BS in Art at East Carolina University and an MEd in Educational Communications from the University of North Carolina. He has worked as a television studio artist, an art teacher/host in educational television, and an exhibiting artist. A popular motivational speaker, Keiber uses his background as a stage and television actor, television producer and director, comedy writer, communications consultant, and coach to teach classes at Berkeley College. He has also written a book, Fear is Good – a guide for using fear as energy in public speaking.
An accomplished artist, Mr. Keiber presently has studios in Yonkers, NY, and Lake Ariel, PA. His abstract acrylics often feature vibrant colors and rough circular central forms.
The artist has selected a theme for his exhibit which is bound to entice potential attendees: “Angry Art (They Know What You’re Thinking).” As he explains it, “After years of curating and exhibiting art, I have overheard many strong opinions voiced by exhibit attendees. So I have produced a series of varied abstract paintings across which are scrawled various captions of what the paintings might say back to a non-admirer.”
Mr. Keiber’s solo exhibitions include three at Berkeley College -- “Hearts and Minds,” “Out of the Ashes,” and “Western Images.” Other solo shows were held at the Raleigh Little Theater Gallery, Raleigh, NC; Tubac Center for the Arts, Tubac, AZ; and St. John’s Gallery, Wilmington, NC. His group shows include St. John’s Gallery, Wilmington, NC; Mint Museum, Charlotte, NC; University of North Carolina, Wilmington, NC, and Westchester Center for the Arts, Mount Kisco, NY. He received the International Creativity Award from Art Direction magazine.
