Berkeley College faculty, staff, alumni and students recently contributed 1,800 hands-on volunteer hours to 50 organizations in New York and New Jersey during the College’s annual Community Service Week. Now in its ninth year, the volunteer initiative aligns with the mission and values of Berkeley College, exemplifying that teaching and learning take place both in and out of the classroom.

From May 20 through 25, 2018, nearly 500 Berkeley College volunteers painted benches and beautified parks; served lunch to those in need at shelters and food kitchens; and connected with youth, seniors and the homebound. In East Rutherford in Bergen County, NJ, volunteers helped with packing, loading and unloading items following the JDRF of Woodbridge One Dream Gala held at the MetLife Stadium.

“Through Community Service Week, faculty, staff, alumni and students share their time and talents with local organizations, serving as ambassadors of Berkeley College’s longtime commitment to social responsibility,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College.

Community Service Week is an initiative of Berkeley Cares, which throughout the year assists charities in the critical areas of food, shelter, health and student success.
